Natural Gas Futures On Monday

U.S. natural gas futures on Monday climbed to their highest level in over a month as a major nor'easter threatened to shut down travel in the heavily populated Midwest and Northeast.

The storm is expected to cause whiteouts, wind gusts of up to 60 miles (96 km)per hour and power outages over a 24 hour period starting Monday night as it drops up to 24 inches (61 centimeters) of snow from central Pennsylvania to Maine, including in New York City and Boston, according to meteorologists at AccuWeather.

That gain comes in the face of the warmest winter on record, which has kept heating demand light so far during the gas industry's November-March storage withdrawal season and left stockpiles 19 percent higher than usual for this time of year.
